Your workouts don't have to go by the wayside just because you're on vacation! Rockville Sport&Health Master Trainer, McKeena Smet, recently spoke with News Channel 8 about how keeping fit and exercising can be a fun part of your next vacation. Try these simple tips to help you return from vacation feeling better about yourself - and with a much easier transition back to your regular fitness routine! 

  • When packing, toss your athletic shoes into your suitcase - whether you think you'll need them or not. "You never know when an opportunity to get in some activity will present itself," she said.  
  • Plan events that require physical activity, without it feeling like a chore. "Being a new place presents lots of great opportunities to sightsee or perform activities you may not do at home, like playing a game of beach bolleyball, kayaking or biking." 
  • Prioritize activiy early in the day. "As the day progresses, you'll likely tired from the sun or vacation activities (drinks, anyone?)."
  • No fitness equipment available? No problem! Simply think outside of the box. A set of stairs is great for a cardio workout or bodyweight exercises like tricep dips or elevated push-ups. Or try some plyometric moves like jump squats for a new twist on cardio.

"At the end of the day, vacation should be fun," said Smet. "Get outside and take advantage of your new surroundings. You'll thank youself when you return from your trip."
