Summer is almost at an end and kids are heading back to school. For parents, that might mean it’s time to make some changes. Backyard barbeques and vacations tend to put a dent in your healthy lifestyle. Time to reset your workout, diet and nutrition programs. 

 

 

Make One Change During That First Week

Give yourself and your family a little adjustment time. If you try to jump right back into a new exercise program and a new diet, it might be too much. Start small and build is the practical approach for those looking to reset. 

For example, during that first full week of school, focus on healthy lunches. Make that one meal your sole purpose, do it right and for the whole family. Pack the kids healthy, nutritious lunches and make one for yourself and your spouse to take to work, too. 

Pencil in Your Workout Times

The thing about kids going back to school is it messes with your entire schedule. Once you get past that first full week and everyone is settled into a new routine, you will have a better idea of when you can squeeze in time for exercise. 

Look at your schedule and make an appointment with yourself for exercise then do what you have to do to keep it. If that means getting a spouse or partner to take care of the kids while you hit the gym, make it happen. 

Take a Comprehensive Approach

Consider joining a gym. That type of commitment opens up all kinds of opportunities for you.  Book yoga or spin classes based on your schedule. Maybe work with a trainer for both exercise and nutrition. 

Choose a gym with multiple locations, too. That means you can exercise during a lunch break at work or hit the gym near home when the kids are visiting grandma. 

Finally, consider ways you can include the children in your plans. For instance, look for a fun center with a rock-climbing wall or spend an hour at the local trampoline park.  

Life changes for everyone when school is back in session. Make the most of it and reset your workout and nutrition strategy.
