Yoga's roots in philosophy and the spiritual experience mark it as distinct from Pilates. While both involve physical benefits, Pilates is concerned directly with the physical and is all about control of your physical core, whereas yoga involves fluid movements to a set of poses.
Bare feet allow you to better feel your positioning on the mat, without shoes or socks impeding that awareness. It is also a way to reduce your chances of slipping during a pose. If this doesn't sound like something you'd be comfortable with, there are yoga socks, sandals and shoes available at many retailers.
Yoga is usually performed barefoot, so you will likely not need any type of footwear. We recommend comfortable clothing that will allow freedom of movement without being too loose.
