Vicki Datlow Named PTR Maryland Member of the Year
Mid-Atlantic USTA
Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards last week during the 2012 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes 50-plus on court and classroom presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, a tennis trade show and tournament, was held February 24-28, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, in Orlando, Florida.
Vicki Datlow, of Regency Sport&Health Club was named PTR Member of the Year for the State. This award is presented to a PTR member in the United States who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting tennis and PTR.
Datlow began her career as a tennis teaching professional after graduating from college. Armed with a chemistry degree, her plans for a career in scientific research went astray when she was offered a tennis teaching job at Nick Bollettieri's that significantly was more than she would earn as a chemist. And the rest is history.
Datlow began teaching under the direction of some of the greatest coaches in the game including Dennis Van der Meer, Nick Bollettieri, Harry Hopman and Dennis Ralston, among others. She has directed highly successful programs in Maryland at Forest Hills Swim and Tennis Club, Columbia Tennis Club and Aspen Hill Club.
For 15 years, Datlow has been the Manager of Jack Schore Tennis, which has offered widely acclaimed junior programs. Jack Schore Tennis will be opening a new state of the art facility in Germantown in September, 2012.
Throughout her 40 year career, Datlow has been recognized by her peers and students not only for her technical expertise, but also her passion for introducing tennis to everyone. She has served the tennis community as promoter, tournament director, CTC administrator, NTRP Verifier, USTA Maryland Board member, and as a member of the USTA/Mid-Atlantic Coaches Commission and Junior Competition Committee. She has won numerous State, Section, and National awards, including Lifetime Achievement awards from the USTA.
Datlow was one of the first professionals to pass all three sections of the USTA Level 2 Sports Science Test, earning her the PTR Golden Eagle of Sports Science Award. This year she hosted a workshop for PTR's new Junior Development and Performance Certifications, and was one of the first to earn certification in Junior Development.
Datlow was a highly ranked junior earning the #1 ranking in the Mid-Atlantic 18s. She played varsity at Rollins College, and has competed throughout her career earning National, Sectional and State rankings.
PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 14,000 members in 117 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
